Playwright Jane Anderson on Mother of the Maid

“Full of discovery. Powerful and stunning.” –Sara Holdren, New York Magazine

The 2018 Public Theater production of Mother of Maid, starring Glenn Close, received much critical praise. The following video, made for that production, shows playwright Jane Anderson discussing her motivations for writing the play and the conversation she hopes to spark for audiences. Like Anderson, we at Northlight are deeply passionate about the mother/daughter story embedded in this version of the Joan of Arc narrative and are delighted to share Jane’s insight into the creation of the play.
