A Note from Director Ron OJ Parson

Director, Skeleton Crew

First of all, I want to thank BJ Jones and Northlight Theatre for thinking of me for this project. It is truly an honor to once again be working on a Dominique Morisseau script. I found it amazing that I would be able to tackle this amazing writer again, having worked on Detroit ’67, Sunset Baby and more recently Paradise Blue, the second in the Detroit Trilogy. I was very excited. Having gone to school at the University of Michigan, where Dominique also studied, I felt a sort of kinship with our Michigan education.

I had many friends that experienced the world of Skeleton Crew, and I asked my friend Henri Watkins who had spent 32 years in “the shop,” as they always called it, to assist me. His experience and insight in that world was invaluable. As we embarked on the journey I found myself immersed in that world myself and was eager to explore a world I had only experienced through others. I love working on Morisseau’s plays because like August Wilson, whose plays I have been directing for over 25 years, there is such a depth of character and detail that I love to take on that challenge.

With Skeleton Crew I worked with some of the best designers in town, Keith Parham, Ray Nardelli, Scott Davis and Samantha Jones, which allowed for a collaboration I welcomed immensely. Together, we created a production I will be proud of forever. I hope you will enjoy coming into this world with us.

Thank you again Dominique.
