Let’s start our instagram takeover with “Table Work” The first day of any rehearsal, we meet the cast, designers, stage managers, fight choreographers, musicians and any other company memebers. We sit around a table and read the play, all together, for the first time. Then we go back, line by line, disecting the play for intention, historical significance, and often actors and directors will tell stories how this play relates to them. This allows for the cast to get rooted in the words and spend time with the text before we start staging or “blocking” the show. . . . #NLTtech #intothebreeches #northlighttheatre #wetakinover #beprepared #chicagotheatre #chicago #skokie #intenselyentertaining

Lets talk about Props. So much care went into the many hand written letters, flyers, scripts and paper materials in this show by the lovely Mary O’Dowd. You might not be able to see these tiny details from the stage but it is so helpful for the actors to feel emersed in the play when the documents they are reading contain actual elements of the text. One of my favorites are the letters June (Molly Hernandez) gets from Max through out the show. . . . #NLTtech #intothebreeches #northlighttheatre #wetakinover #beprepared #chicagotheatre #chicago #skokie #intenselyentertaining

Enought about props, lets talk about the set (by Arnel Sancianco). Some of the pieces used in Into the Breeches were found in other shows this season. The rehearsal door and table were recently used in Mansfield Park in the Portsmouth scenes. And if you are a frequenter of Northlight shows, you might recognize the proscenium arch of the Oberon Theatre from Northlight’s own inner lobby. . . . #NLTtech #intothebreeches #northlighttheatre #chicagotheatre #chicago #skokie #intenselyentertaining

There are quite a few quick changes through out the show. Some as little as adding a sweater and hat. But Winifred Snow (Penny Slusher) transforming into Falstaff is by far my favorite. Including a fat suit, wig change and beard added, all with the assistance of the ever wonderful Robin Feltman. . . . #NLTtech #intothebreeches #northlighttheatre #chicagotheatre #chicago #skokie #intenselyentertaining

Time to call it a night and set the #ghostlight. One last fun fact for you all though, the ghost light used in the show is Northlight’s actual ghost light we set at the end of each day. I’ve yet to see any ghosts in the North Shore Center and I hope it stays that way. Thanks for joining me backstage today!
